Need encouragement? Want ideas to teach your kids? Looking for ways to add some hands-on fun into your lessons? Or maybe you're just trying to figure out if this "homeschool thing" is right for your family?

If so, you're in the right place! I'm here to share my experiences as a homeschool mom, and the tips & tricks (and mistakes) I've learned along the way.

Above all, I want to help you make memories with your kids as you learn together.

Full Disclosure:
I am especially knowledgable about things that DON'T work, mainly because I've made many mistakes along the way.

Did you catch the word many?

It’s valuable to be reading the blog of someone who has home-schooled long enough to experience
many mistakes, and not only lived to tell about them, but admits to them.

Just saying.

More About Me:
I married my college sweetheart, Dave, aka Mr. IT Guy.

Our household electronics fear him.

Mr. IT Guy and I are founding directors of a regional homeschool organization. I am also a former field rep for a popular hands-on unit study curricula.

If you were to come to my house, I’d offer you a cup of tea. To be honest, tea is my love language. Dark chocolate is my vice. . . and so is buying too many books.

I enjoy meeting people and listening to their stories. I also love sharing the joys of homeschooling and helping parents to think “outside the box” to find curricula & teaching methods that work best for their unique family situation.

I’m excited to talk with you and encourage you along your homeschooling journey, or help answer any questions you may have!

Let’s get started!

My Favorite Book:
I have an affinity for bookstores.

When I’m not teaching my kids, I can usually be found roaming the aisles of a bookstore (where I also have a handy-dandy Teacher’s Discount card) searching for great books to take home. (Can you have too many books?) Sometimes, I even get to read them.

Used bookstores are a treasure trove. In fact, much of our home library is comprised of old, out-of-print books I’ve collected (rescued?) over the years from various used bookstores and library book sales.

Would it surprise you to know that I found an old hardback of my favorite chapter book,
Carry On, Mr. Bowditch in a small coffee shop in Idaho?

This amazing coffee shop had walls lined with floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with books. Patrons could read books while sipping their drinks, or they could purchase the books if they wanted to take them home.

Such a great concept! If I had a coffee shop, the walls would be lined with books just like that one.

My Favorite Hobbies:
I love planning! Parties, events, trips, school schedules, lesson plans…. Yes, even lesson planning can be fun!

Every summer, I spend a couple weeks planning for the upcoming school year. It makes me look forward to the beginning of school and all the fun things I wish to incorporate into our lesson plans.

Like everything else, if you want to have a fun school year, you have to plan for it.

Speaking of which, I can't wait to share my planning tips with you! I have lots of tricks up my sleeve.

If the thought of planning makes you break out in hives, never fear. I'll hold your hand and walk you through it. You'll do great!
